David Langford as One of the British Writers
David Rowland Langford is a British author and writer. He is also an editor and critic, especially in the field of science fiction. He was the publisher of the newsletter, ‘Ansible’.
angford was born in April 10th 1953, in Newport, Monmouthshire, England. He is the brother of Jon Langford, the famous punk rock drummer from the 1970s. He first became interested in the field of science fiction when he was studying physics at Brasenose College in Oxford, England. He first worked as a weapons specialist at the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment located in Aldermaston, Berkshire. His writing career began when he started writing parodies of short science fiction stories such as ’The Dragonhiker’s Guide to Battlefield at Dune’s Edge: Oddysey Two‘. He also wrote two parodying novels, ’Earthdoom‘ and ’Guts‘ with co-writer John Grant. In 1982, he wrote a serious science fiction novel entitled ’The Space Eater‘. In 2001 he wrote ’Different Kinds of Darkness’, a collection of science fiction stories. For this collection, he won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 2001. He received a series of Hugo Awards for the Best Fan Writer, Best Fanzine and Best Semiprozine. In total, he won 28 Hugo Awards by the end of 2008. Langford also wrote columns in some computer magazines such as ’8000 Plus‘. He has been a guest of honour at conventions such as Boskone, Finncon, Picocon and Worldcon. The most recent published book written by Langford is ’The End of Harry Potter?’ It was released in 2006. He also has won a series of awards for writing fantasy fiction books
